Running Should Be Safe for Everyone. Everywhere.

Running isn’t just a sport—moving safely and freely is a human right.

Running is a pathway to health and self-discovery we all can take. With just a pair of shoes and motivation, any person can run into a better self and a better life—a choice made daily by 50 million Americans, 58% of whom are women.

We won’t stop until every community has safe, shaded, well-equipped routes where everyone can run freely and fearlessly.

 60%

of women report having been harassed while running.

7,148

pedestrian & runner deaths in 2024, up 20% since 2016.

 62%

of runners report regularly having to use the bathroom during running.

 24%

increase in heat risk running days since 2000 due to climate change.

We deserve better.
Let’s make it Safe2Run
together.

  • Signage, lighting, call boxes, cameras, policing, anti-harassment and discrimination policies.

  • On-street safe routes with daylit intersections and over/under passes; off-street trail systems with segregated walk/run/bike spaces.

  • Modern bathrooms with safety features and proactive management; water fountains and bottle fills, even in dry areas!

  • Shade tree corridors  to cool and clean the air; complementary built shade structures and air quality measures.

What makes a route

Safe2Run?

How we get there

Tell the story

We use modern, influencer-led techniques to build and deliver a cut-through narrative that inspires action.

show cities what to do

We lead design charrettes, research, and innovation to set Safe2Run Standards with best practices for each. We will show cities where action is needed with our in-development Safe2Run Mapper covering every U.S. city.

create capacity
for action

To give cities the needed tools, we lead advocacy and engagement to rally supportive public policy and funding. We also engage the private sector to highlight opportunities for private finance and investment.

Mobilize action

We directly engage and empower cities to make a Safe2Run pledge and then help them rally partners and implement. This ranges from deeper work with carefully selected Safe2Run “Pacesetter Cities” to providing nationwide technical assistance for any interested city.
